/ Staff writer, with CNA Taiwanese actor Tseng Jing-hua (曾敬驊) on Saturday won Best Lead Actor at the Global OTT Awards in Busan, South Korea, for his performance in Had I Not Seen the Sun (如果我不曾見過太陽).
Other nominees in the category included Hyun Bin and Kim Seon-ho of South Korea, Ryoma Takeuchi of Japan and Song Weilong (宋威龍) of China, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency said in a statement released yesterday.
The Taiwanese fantasy series Agent From Above (乩身) also won Best Visual Effects, with visual effects supervisor Tomi Kuo (郭憲聰) accepting the award, highlighting Taiwan’s strong showing at the annual streaming-content awards, the agency added.
Four Taiwanese actors — Tseng, Vivian Sung (宋芸樺), Suri Lin (林廷憶) and Chiang Chi (江齊) — served as presenters at the event.
Sung, who presented an award at the ceremony in Busan’s BIFF Theater in 2024, returned this year as a member of the final judging panel. Lin, who won Best Newcomer (Female) at last year’s Global OTT Awards for Born for the Spotlight (影后), returned this year as a presenter and helped present the newcomer award.
Chiang, who earned a Best Newcomer (Female) nomination for Had I Not Seen the Sun, joined Tseng in presenting the Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song awards.
Taiwanese productions also received recognition beyond the acting categories. The series City Founding Pioneer (都市開基祖) was nominated for both Best Asian Contents and Best Writer.
Deputy Minister of Culture Sue Wang (王時思), who is also the agency’s chairwoman, said the participation of Taiwanese actors reflected the strength and resilience of Taiwan’s film and television industry.
“Seeing four actors represent Taiwan on the Global OTT Awards stage reflects the strength and professionalism of Taiwan’s film and television industry,” the statement cited Wang as saying.
Through targeted international promotion and deeper integration of resources, Taiwan hopes to bring more homegrown talent onto the global stage, she added.
