These together with big data collections are moving at phenomenal speed. What we could and should do is a balancing act for many scientists. “Trust” is at the heart of scientific pursuit of knowledge and the “truth”. Temptation, curiosity, greed, pressure and ignorance can lead us down the wrong path. The future of the next generation can change on the basis of this balancing act. What should we do?

2015.01.15 法治文化 主講：戴耀廷教授簡介經歷「雨傘運動」，港人對法治有了更深的認知，但也出現了對法治的不同甚至是相互衝突的理解。有認為法治最重要的就是守法，因公民抗命行動是違法行為，故是有損法治。亦有認為法治最重要是確保法院的司法權威，故不遵法院頒布的禁制令，對法治做成傷害很大，即使是公民抗命的行為也沒有例外。但也有認為法治的目的是要規限政府權力及實踐公義，故以達成這些目的的公民抗命行為，對法治並沒有太大的影響，反是實現法治的行為。究竟這些對法治不同的理解是否真的存在衝突或能否共存呢？講者會引用法律發展模式的理論去重新審視法治與公民抗命的關係，而法律文化的演變是法制發展以至對法治詮釋背後的動力。

2015.02.26 全球變暖的真相－－說或不說？主講：劉雅章教授簡介本講以淺易的語言來介紹人類活動所引致的全球暖化背後的基本科學原理。我們將回顧氣候變化對地球系統（Earth System）不同部分（例如，大氣、海洋、陸地、冰圈）的影響，並介紹了解天氣系統的科研工具與方法，利用這套工具和方法，科學家能了解天氣系統的現 狀，也能預測它在未來數十年的變化；亦講解聯合國IPCC（Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change，政府間氣候變化專門委員會）在協調和紀錄科學界工作方面所扮演的角色。講者在過去廿載參與IPCC的工作，他將會與聽眾分享其中的經驗與所 見所聞。IPCC的報告一直都引起社會上的爭議，講者將敘述這些爭辯，並反思幾位氣候科學家在這些辯論之中所吃過的苦頭。

2015.02.26 On Global WarmingSpeaker: Prof. Lau Ngar CheungBrief DescriptionA description is offered in layman language on the basic scientific principles of global warming induced by human activities. The impacts of climate change on various components of the Earth System (atmosphere, ocean, land, cryosphere, etc.) are reviewed. The scientific research tools and methodology used to understand the current state of the climate system, and to project its evolution in the coming decades, are introduced. The role of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in coordinating and documenting the efforts of the scientific community is explained. The experience and observations of the speaker in contributing to the work of the IPCC during the past two decades are shared with the audience. An account is given of the social controversies surrounding the IPCC reports, with reflections of the personal hardships faced by several climate scientists in these debates.

2015.03.12 新聞求真主講：林建誠（有線電視中國組記者）覃純健（明報資深記者）林藹雲（香港獨立媒體創辦人，Global Voices編輯）主持：張炳玲（前香港記者協會主席）簡介新聞以發掘和報導真相為已任，為了求真，新聞工作者須付出多少努力和代價？在求真的路上，新聞工作者又遇到甚麼困難？過去兩年，香港出現頭條被改、主持被「炒」、採訪權被限制，以至編輯、記者、報館遇襲等事件，莫非求真即是惹火？

與此同時，民間記者如雨後春筍；透過社交媒體，人人都可參與報導「真相」。一般普羅大眾，可如何閱讀這些新聞？

2015.03.26 高鐵，大橋與中港矛盾主講：黎廣德先生簡介廣深港高鐵與港珠澳大橋是香港特區政府成立後兩項最大基建工程，亦是引起社會爭議最多的項目。究竟這些過千億元投資的工程為何而建？為誰而建？無論是有政治任務在身的官員、得益最大的發展商、被迫滅村的菜園村居民、受空氣污染加劇之苦的東涌社區、以至直接受惠的工程建築界，對項目的取態均截然不同。但最深遠的影響，莫如這些跨境項目所標示的中港融合，以至深港「同城化」的願景。正當本土意識在港日益高漲之際，重新檢視這兩個項目的深層意義，有助港人了解中港矛盾的來龍去脈，更可作為「香港往何處去」的參照座標。

2015.04.09 宇宙大爆炸主講：楊綱凱教授簡介我們知道多少關於宇宙的真相?這些知識又是如何獲得的呢?宇宙始於大爆炸，已廣被接受，無可爭議。哈勃於1930年代發現宇宙膨漲，意味宇宙的開始是大爆炸。

1964年發現宇宙微波輻射(CMB) 後，大爆炸模型更不容置疑。此講將介紹這些經典知識。在精密宇宙學方面，科學家近年取得驚人進展，對宇宙的理解愈益精密，其中包括﹕宇宙年齡測定到幾乎四位有效數字；宇宙膨漲還在加速，而所謂萬有「引」力，竟然在長距離變成斥力；宇宙所含的物質和能量中96%是前所未知的新品種；我們對早期宇宙掌握了確切知識。準確的量度取代了猜想，宇宙學已成為一門建立於觀測數據的精密科學。

2015.04.09 The Big BangSpeaker: Prof. Kenneth YoungBrief DescriptionIt is now accepted that the universe began with a Big Bang.  The Big Bang model, implicit in the Hubble expansion observed in the 1930s and firmly established with the discovery of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) in 1964, is now part of the classical canon.  Some astonishing  advances have been made in precision cosmology in recent years: age of the universe to (nearly) 4 significant figures; acceleration of cosmological expansion and gravitational repulsion at large distances; new forms of matter and energy, previously unknown, accounting for 96% of the universe; and firm knowledge of the history of the universe back to very early times.  One theme will be the displacement of speculation by accurate measurements and the emergence of cosmology as a precision observational science.
