100 years ago in a bid to overthrow the despotic Qing Dynasty, our forefathers had fought with sweat, blood and lives. Yet till now, the problems that motivated their fight - those of ethnic conflicts, democracy and livelihood - still remain unresolved.
22 years ago, the death of Hu Yaobang sparked a wave of democracy movement. Yet the movement was bloodily suppressed with no justice in sight still.
After June 4th, political reform grind to a halt. As the economy develops, corruption becomes more widespread, wealth gap is ever widening, social vulnerable groups are oppressed, moral norms are brushed aside, right defenders and dissidents are imprisoned, a climate of fear had blanketed the country and human rights became empty words.
The Alliance is going to organise a series of lectures, to reflect on the experience of the Xinhai Revolution and the 89' Democracy movement and disceussed the development of the right-defending and democratic movement in China.
