''The Pursuit Of Wisdom'' Public Lecture【「智慧的探索」公開講座】2019To celebrate the 55th anniversary of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the University launches “The Pursuit of Wisdom” Public Lecture Series which assembles the wisdom, strength and distinction of CUHK experts from across different disciplines and disseminates these in the community. The eight lectures cover various topics including translational medicine, artificial intelligence, food supply and sustainable agriculture, physics and the universe, history and psychology. Outstanding CUHK professors will present to the public their research experience and achievements and deliver abstruse knowledge in laymen’s terms. 香港中文大學 (中大) 為慶祝五十五周年，舉辦「智慧的探索」公開講座系列，匯萃中大傑出學人的知識與經驗，傳承智慧。

八場講座涵蓋轉化醫學、人工智能、糧食與永續農業、宇宙與物理、歷史、心理學等範疇，八位出色學者將深入淺出與公眾分享鑽研學問的心路歷程與豐碩成果。

2019.01.11  Professor Rocky S. TUAN : “Regenerative Medicine: Promises and Challenges” 段崇智教授主講：再生醫學的前途與挑戰What are the similarities between tissue-engineered cartilage produced from regenerative medicine technologies and a fish ball? Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK gave his public lecture on 11 January to introduce the promises and challenges of regenerative medicine. He also told of his research experiences and achievements. 以再生醫學技術製作的人體軟骨，與粥麵檔必備的魚蛋有何關係？

段校長於2019年1月11日的「再生醫學的前途與挑戰」講座中，向全場觀眾概述再生醫學的理念，更即席分享他多年來從事科研工作的心路歷程。

2019.02.15 Professor Dennis LO : "The Joys and Challenges of Scientific Research" 盧煜明教授主講：科研的挑戰與樂趣So near and yet so far. “Father of the Non-Invasive Prenatal Test” Prof. Dennis Lo had made the bold assumption of the presence of fetal DNA in maternal blood from the days of his university studies. However, for 8 years he'd been missing the key to the research, which is the plasma, until the idea of it came to him. Now, not only is he the "Father of Non-Invasive Prenatal Test”, he has also developed the “Plasma DNA Screening Study of Nasopharyngeal Cancer”.遠在天邊，近在眼前。

「無創產檢之父」盧煜明教授大學時就大膽假設孕婦血液有胎兒DNA，但在求證過程中，曾有8年時間一直忽略了手上的研究重點——媽媽的血漿。直到一天他靈機一閃把焦點放在血漿，成就了「無創產前檢查」，更延展至鼻咽癌篩查研究，造福社會。

2019.04.01 Professor LAM Hon-ming : "Soybean Research: A Journey from Laboratory to Field" 林漢明教授主講：大豆研究：一段從實驗室到農田科研之旅How would you feel if your spouse presented you with a ring made of soybean as your 30th wedding anniversary gift? Our 'Soybean Expert' Prof. Lam Hon-ming prepared just such a gift for his wife. Prof. Lam gave the third lecture in ‘The Pursuit of Wisdom’ Public Lecture Series on the topic of 'Soybean Research: A Journey from Laboratory to Field' on 1 April and shared his research which has taken him to landscapes and agriculture all over the world.

Hunger is one of the challenges facing people globally nowadays. Prof. Lam is a pioneer in improving the genetic make-up of soybean to help alleviate the looming problems in world food supply and security. He believes that scientists are responsible for developing new technologies to increase crop yield and quality, and to achieve the aim of sustainable agriculture. An international collaborative research team led by Prof. Lam completed the world’s first reference-grade wild soybean genome which provides an important tool for soybean genetic research. The research findings have been published in the internationally renowned academic journal Nature Communications recently.如果你的另一半在30周年珍珠婚紀念為你送來一顆只得大豆的戒指，你會有甚麼感想？

這位「送粒豆」的勇敢丈夫便是「大豆專家」林漢明教授。林教授於4月1日主講第三場 #55周年校慶 「智慧的探索」公開講座系列，便率領參加者一同踏上他的「大豆研究：一段從實驗室到農田科研之旅」，細說他歷年的「大豆奇遇記」。糧食危機堪稱當下全球公民面臨的挑戰之一，林教授多年來研究大豆基因，為各地農民培植能夠適應惡劣環境的大豆品種，以新技術提升糧食產量及質素。林教授領導的國際合作研究團隊，最近更完成全球首個野生大豆的參考基因組，為全球的大豆基因研究提供重要基礎。有關研究成果日前於國際著名學術期刊《自然·通訊》發表。

2019.05.24 Professor CHU Ming-chung : "Beautiful Asymmetries in the Universe" 朱明中教授主講：宇宙的美好缺憾'Stars don't live forever.' 'In the magnificent universe, what we can't see is far more than what we can.'

In Prof. Chu Ming-chung's mind, these are the 'beautiful asymmetries in the universe'. In 'The Pursuit of Wisdom' Public Lecture on 24 May, Prof. Chu used Vincent van Gogh's art piece 'The Starry Night' to describe the universe, 'There are stars that we can find but, at the same time, dark matter that we can't find. Even if we can find the stars, they will one day explode and become black holes.' Wait, don't be too sad. These imperfections have attracted 'silly boys and silly girls' (Prof. Chu's way of calling his students) to immerse themselves in studying and reveal the unknowns.「原來恆星不永恆」 「壯麗的宇宙，看不見的遠超看得見的」

以上是朱明中教授心中「宇宙的美好缺憾」。在5月24日的「智慧的探索」公開講座中，朱教授以梵高畫作《星夜》形容宇宙，有看得見的星星，亦有看不見的暗物質，而星星又終有爆炸、熄滅的一天。但正因為有着這些遺憾，令一群「傻仔傻女」（朱教授笑言他的學生是傻仔傻女）醉心研究，尋找所有未知的答案。

2019.06.03 Professor Helen MENG : "Artificial Intelligence for Speaking and Listening for Learning and Well-being" 蒙美玲教授主講：懂聽懂說的人工智能如何改善人類的學習及生活‘Could Artificial Intelligence make people lose their jobs?’ ‘Yes, that's why we need to re-skill ourselves.’Prof. Helen Meng of CUHK Faculty of Engineering gave her lecture in ‘The Pursuit of Wisdom’ Public Lecture Series on the topic of “Artificial Intelligence in Speaking and Listening for Learning and Well-Being”  on 3 June 2019. She unfolded her years of experience in studying artificial intelligence and explained how A.I. managed to listen, talk and even help patients with strokes and cerebral palsy. 」「答案是會的，因此我們更要積極裝備自己！」中大工程學院蒙美玲教授2019年6月3日主講55周年校慶「智慧的探索」公開講座系列，主題為「懂聽懂說的人工智能如何改善人類的學習及生活」。蒙教授即席暢談她多年來研究人工智能技術的歷程，揭秘 A.I.技術是如何懂聽懂說，更是如何幫助中風、腦癱等病的患者。

2019.09.09 Professor David FAURE : "Filial Piety and Business Enterprise: Why is Filial Piety Good for Business ?" 科大衛教授主講：孝道與產業：為甚麼「孝」有助商業發展？

If you asked a business professor for tips on doing business, his answer would probably be demand and supply analysis. But why would the answer from a history professor be ‘filial piety’?In the sixth lecture of the CUHK 55th Anniversary ‘The Pursuit of Wisdom’ Public Lecture Series on 9 Sept, Prof. David Faure, CUHK Wei Lun Research Professor of History and the Director of Centre for China Studies, talked about the relationship between filial piety and business through genealogies and ancestral halls. Prof. Faure also revealed that, remarkably, our ancestors in Southern China recognised the private ownership of capital through the traditional virtue of filial piety when China had no company law during the Ming and Qing dynasties.若問一位商科教授如何做生意，他的答案很可能是洞悉市場；但歷史教授眼中的營商之道，卻變成一個「孝」字？

中大偉倫歷史學研究教授及中國研究中心主任科大衛教授（Prof. David Faure）於9月9日主講第6場55周年校慶「智慧的探索」公開講座系列，便與各位一同翻族譜、訪祠堂，細說明、清時代的華南宗族如何巧妙落實「法人」地位，讓他們在沒有公司法的背景下，仍得以有效管理財產。

2019.09.23 Professor CHIU Chi-yue : "Mindset and Success: The Psychology of a Flourished Life" 趙志裕教授主講：心想事成：美滿人生心理學When it comes to love, do you believe in fate or do you think your efforts count in building a relationship?

Those with a growth mindset believe a relationship needs to be built through the efforts of both. Those with a fixed mindset believe a bad relationship is destined to fail.

Studies show that a relationship stays stronger and lasts longer for couple with a growth mindset. Your mindset doesn't only affect your love, but also your academic performance, career, creativity and world vision. Today (23 September), Prof. Chiu Chi-yue, CUHK Dean of Social Science and Choh-Ming Li Professor of Psychology spoke in the 7th lecture in the CUHK 55th Anniversary 'The Pursuit of Wisdom’ Public Lecture Series. He illustrated with scientific evidence that a growth mindset, in which we believe our talents can be developed with effort, learning and dedication, brings us closer to success.緣份天注定？

還是關係靠經營？

「成長型心態」的人相信世上沒有一拍即合的關係，努力可使大家合拍；「固定型心態」的人相信若真有緣就一拍即合，要努力耕耘就是不合拍。

研究顯示，「成長型心態」的情侶關係會較為穩定長久。其實，心態不止影響愛情，還影響學業、事業、創意及世界觀。今天（9月23日），在第7場 #55周年校慶「智慧的探索」講座中，中大社會科學院院長、卓敏心理學講座教授趙志裕教授以研究結果說明，若我們相信凡事都可以通過努力而達成，即擁有「成長型心態」，在各方面表現都會較成功的。

2019.10.14 Professor Tony MOK : "A Legend in Medical Oncology" 莫樹錦教授主講：抗癌漫長路Considered “a legend in medical oncology”, Professor MOK has been standing by patients and researching lung cancer treatments for years and he is the first one to really put into practice personalised medicine in advanced lung cancer. He founded targeted therapy and studies on the application of immunotherapy. He told the audience in the lecture of his experience on the long and winding road to conquer cancer and about creating hope for patients.國際肺癌權威、中大醫學院腫瘤學系系主任莫樹錦教授多年來致力研究肺癌治療，率領全球將晚期肺癌治療個人化，開創標靶治療，研究免疫療法，與病人共同作戰。

莫教授於公開講座上，分享他在癌症研究的漫漫長征，為病人創造希望的經歷。
